The Vaila Boat

The shore base boat required various updates, including some major works, with limited time to get the tasks completed as the boat is a vital link between the island of Vaila and Shetland mainland and used almost daily.

With full removal of the wheelhouse, control panel and other large onboard items, co-ordinating the timing of the works completed to allow the maintenance to run efficiently and in a specific order process was essential to keep the project moving.
With the updates requested, it was extremely important to provide our client with a vessel that remained dependable and capable of consistent handling within the varying weather, water, sea conditions it operates.

Wheelhouse completely upgraded to provide a sound working environment for the crew with bow ramp refurbished for easier operational use, control systems removed, inspected and refitted to provide reliable performance, dependable engine function and power output. Both Mercury engines maintained and tuned.

- Provision
Vessel collected and transported to our workshop on our crane truck. Wheelhouse removed, sandblasted, repainted and refitted, both 80hp Mercury outboard engines fully serviced, new anodes fitted, and antifouling of the whole hull completed.
Delivery back to a location of our client’s choice for initial sea trials also provided.

As exclusive Mercury outboard motor dealer for Shetland, our engineers are qualified and Mercury factory trained to provide engine maintenance and overhauls. Disassembly of the wheelhouse and associated electrical wiring and vessel control panel completed and then rebuilt, checked, tested and passed.

The project was fully completed with the vessel back in the water for sea tests, passed and handed back-over to our client, providing them with an on-schedule delivery agreement as promised.
