DH Marine Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship Opportunity- 2018

News Posted: April 4th 2018

Founded by David Henry in June 2000 to provide support to customers in the marine industry, DH Marine quickly developed a reputation for providing highly knowledgeable people who would go the extra mile to get customers up and running again when the unexpected happened.

Today DH Marine provides the same high level of support to a wide variety of customers in the industrial, commercial, marine, aquaculture and oil & gas industries across Shetland and beyond.

We are proud of our achievements and recognise that future success depends upon us continuing to attract and recruit the best talent available, which is where you come in!   If you are a keen and enthusiastic individual, have a ‘can do’ attitude and a strong desire to succeed then you should apply by visiting the Train Shetland website to:

Completed applications should be returned by 31st May 2018.

Potential candidates will be invited to complete a two week work placement trial in the summer.  On completion a final selection will be made.

The 4 year apprenticeship consists of a combination of college hours and on the job experience, leading to an SVQ/NVQ level 3 in Engineering Maintenance (Mechanical).

On a typical day, you could find yourself working alongside our experienced engineers to:

  • carry out routine maintenance on DH Marine plant & equipment at the Sullom Voe and Shetland Gas Plant terminals
  • diagnose and repair faults on a marine propulsion system on board a fishing vessel
  • repair and maintain customers’ equipment in the DH Marine workshops.
  • carry out a major over haul on an engine in-situ, removing, cleaning and replacing worn items such as bearings, valves and seals as necessary.
